Pacific Islands University

Pacific Islands University is a small four-year college and graduate-level seminary accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). The campus is in Mangilao, Guam. There are additional teaching facilities in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia; Koror, Palau; and Colonia, Yap, Federated States of Micronesia.

History

Founded in 1976, as the Micronesian Institute of Biblical Studies on the island of Tol in Chuuk, in 1991 the school changed its name to Pacific Islands Bible College, added a new site on Guam, and began to offer the Associate of Arts (AA) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees in Bible. In 1995 they established a campus in Mangilao. In 2004 the school received accreditation from TRACS. The accreditation opened up financial aid opportunities for students and established quality standards for the degrees. With this in place the school has steadily grown and now has about 150 students, most of whom are Micronesians. In 2008 PIBC started a small graduate-level seminary program and began offering a Master of Arts in Religion (MAR) degree. In February 2009 the Board of Trustees approved a name change that became effective July 1, 2009. The school is now called Pacific Islands University. Pacific Islands Bible College continues as a college within the university. The Board action named the graduate seminary Pacific Islands Evangelical Seminary. In addition, the Board approved the development of a new Christian liberal arts college which is called Pacific Islands Christian College.
